“I am honored to serve the students and staff at JDC.”

Geoff Markos has been in education for 20 years as a math teacher, assistant principal and principal.  He has worked for Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools for nine years.  He spent three years as an Assistant Principal at F.L. Schlagle High School and most recently was the Principal at J.C. Harmon High School for the last six years.

In college, Mr. Markos played basketball for the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Emporia State University.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Math Education and Master’s Degrees in both Educational Administration and Curriculum and Instruction from Emporia State.

Mr. Markos is a native of Augusta, Kansas and is from a family of educators.  His father is a retired superintendent, his mother is a retired art teacher, his grandfather is a retired math professor, his grandmother is a retired teacher and his uncle is a retired teacher.   His wife, Teresa, runs the house arrest program in Johnson County.  He has two high-school-age children, Kiersten and Kristopher, who are both engaged in multiple activities from music to athletics.  He loves spending time with his family, watching them do what they do best and encouraging them to always do better.  In his limited amount of free time, he loves photography, travel, and cooking.

The Wyandotte County Juvenile Detention Center is located on 710 North 7th Street in Kansas City, Kansas.  The educational programming of WyCo JDC is provided by Kansas City Kansas Public Schools. Our system is based on the direction and expectations of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, Kansas Department of Education (KSDE), and Kansas City Kansas Public Schools.

We focus our work on building you up for success through:

  • course progress and earned credit in transferable coursework,
  • individualized academic and social emotional development,
  • transitional support in returning to traditional school.
